WNBA Star A’ja Wilson’s Boyfriend Bam Adebayo Arrested at Tampa Int. Airport on possession of …

Posted on June 12, 2026 by Joe Sam

In a shocking turn of events, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo, the longtime boyfriend of Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson, was arrested  this morning at Tampa International Airport. According to airport police and an official statement from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Adebayo was taken into custody around 11:30 a.m. after a routine K-9 sweep of a private charter jet area.

Authorities allege that a controlled substance, believed to be a powdered form of MDMA and several vape cartridges containing THC concentrate, was discovered in a duffel bag belonging to the NBA All-Star. Adebayo, 27, was in Tampa for a private event and was scheduled to fly back to Miami. He was immediately detained and is facing felony charges of possession with intent to distribute.

“This is an ongoing investigation, and we are treating it with the utmost seriousness,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister in a brief press conference. “Mr. Adebayo was cooperative with officers, but the evidence found is substantial.”

The arrest has sent ripples through both the NBA and WNBA communities. A’ja Wilson, who is currently in the midst of a tight playoff race with the Las Vegas Aces, has not yet released a public statement. However, sources close to the couple say she is “devastated and in complete shock.” The pair have been one of the most high-profile power couples in sports, often sharing their support for one another on social media.

Adebayo’s legal team has already retained high-profile defense attorney Bradford Cohen, who stated, “Bam is innocent. This is a misunderstanding, and we are confident that the facts will clear his name. He did not bring any illegal substances onto that plane.”

The Miami Heat organization issued a brief statement saying they are “aware of the situation and gathering more information.” Adebayo is expected to be arraigned tomorrow morning at the Hillsborough County Courthouse. If convicted on the intent to distribute charge, he could face a minimum of three years in prison, potentially derailing both his NBA career and his relationship with the WNBA’s reigning MVP.
