Rangers still pushing to sign exciting 19-goal striker as crucial double deal eyed

Posted on August 26, 2026 by Ibrahim Musa

Rangers are actively pursuing a deal for Portland Timbers forward Kevin Kelsy as the transfer deadline approaches. The 22-year-old Venezuelan international, who has scored 19 goals during his time in Major League Soccer, has expressed a clear preference for a move to Ibrox. However, negotiations between the two clubs remain ongoing, as a final agreement on the valuation and structural terms of the transfer has not yet been finalized.

The interest in Kelsy comes as part of a broader recruitment drive aimed at strengthening the squad’s core options. Following a season-ending injury to Youssef Chermiti, securing an additional central striker has become a primary objective for the recruitment team. Alongside the pursuit of a new forward, Rangers are also working to finalize defensive reinforcements, eyeing a double swoop to ensure sufficient depth across both ends of the pitch before the window closes.

This late push follows the recent agreement to sign South Korean winger Kim Min-su from Girona for an £8.6 million fee. With multiple moves actively being managed, the final days of the transfer period will determine whether the club can successfully conclude negotiations for Kelsy or pivot to alternative targets to complete their summer restructuring.
