In a highly anticipated preseason exhibition at Michelob ULTRA Arena, the Las Vegas Aces secured a 94-78 victory over the Japan Women’s National Team, but the night was overshadowed by drama involving newly signed guard Chennedy Carter.
Carter, making her Aces debut after signing a training-camp contract earlier this month, exploded for 18 points off the bench in just 18 minutes. Her aggressive drives and sharp shooting reminded fans why the former Chicago Sky standout is one of the league’s most dynamic scorers. However, her return to the WNBA took a chaotic turn late in the game when she was ejected following a heated confrontation with Japan’s team captain.
The incident occurred during a physical battle under the basket in the fourth quarter. Carter and the Japanese captain exchanged words after a hard foul, quickly escalating into a face-to-face clash that drew both benches. Officials intervened swiftly, issuing technical fouls before ejecting Carter for unsportsmanlike conduct. The captain remained in the game, though visibly shaken by the exchange.
Aces head coach Becky Hammon addressed the moment post-game: “Chennedy brings that competitive fire we need. She’s passionate, but we’ll review the tape and make sure everyone channels it the right way. Tonight showed her talent, but discipline matters too.”
Despite the ejection, the Aces rolled with balanced scoring. Jackie Young added 17 points, Chelsea Gray contributed 16, and six players reached double figures. A’ja Wilson sat out as a precaution, giving others valuable reps.
Carter’s signing has generated buzz, with many viewing her as a high-upside bench spark for a championship-contending roster. Her history of physical play, including past high-profile moments, continues to polarize fans and analysts.
Japan fought valiantly, led by solid team play, but couldn’t match the Aces’ depth in the second half.
The preseason continues for Las Vegas as they fine-tune chemistry ahead of the 2026 WNBA regular season. Carter’s next opportunity to prove herself will come soon—hopefully without the early exit.
