Caitlin Clark FINED $5 000 after inappropriate Remarks towards Valkyries forward Janelle Salaün….

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has been fined $5,000 by the WNBA for what league officials described as “inappropriate and unsportsmanlike comments” directed at Golden State Valkyries Rookie forward Janelle Salaün during their last night Victory matchup.

The incident occurred at the end of 2nd Quarter  when Clark was heard making pointed remarks toward the French rookie after a physical play under the basket. According to multiple broadcast microphones and lip-readers, Clark said, “Keep those hands to yourself, princess,” followed by another comment that sources close to the league called “borderline disrespectful.” Salaün, who had been guarding Clark tightly, appeared visibly frustrated but did not respond verbally on the court.

League commissioner Cathy Engelbert addressed the matter in a brief statement: “While we celebrate competitiveness, the WNBA will not tolerate comments that cross into personal territory. Respect for opponents remains a core value of our league.”

Clark, who has emerged as one of the league’s biggest stars and a driving force behind its surging popularity, issued a short apology on social media late Friday night. “Heat of the moment. I’ve got nothing but respect for Janelle and the Valkyries. We’re all out here competing. Love to my fans,” she posted.

Salaün, a highly-touted international prospect known for her length and defensive versatility, downplayed the exchange in post-game comments. “It’s basketball. Emotions run high. I focus on my game,” she said through a translator.

The fine marks the second disciplinary action against Clark this season, though her previous issues were minor technical fouls. Analysts suggest the league is walking a tightrope — protecting its rising stars while maintaining professionalism as viewership and merchandise sales continue to break records.

Fans have reacted strongly on social media, with many defending Clark as passionate while others argue accountability matters regardless of stardom. The Fever face the Valkyries again next month in what is already being billed as a must-watch matchup.
