Youssef Chermiti: Out long-term due to an ACL injury,

Posted on August 26, 2026 by Ibrahim Musa

Rangers have been dealt a severe set of circumstances ahead of the transfer deadline following the news that Youssef Chermiti has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The 22-year-old Portuguese forward, who established himself as a central figure in the attack after scoring 15 goals last season, faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines. The setback came shortly after the club turned down a high-value bid from Galatasaray, transforming what was set to be a key campaign for Chermiti into a lengthy period of rehabilitation.

Losing Chermiti’s presence at the focal point of the attack leaves a major gap in the squad’s dynamic. Beyond his goal-scoring capability, his physical profile and link-up play provided a crucial release valve for the team in domestic and European fixtures. While the existing attacking options will be called upon to shoulder the immediate burden, relying on internal cover alone presents obvious risks over the course of a demanding season across multiple competitions.

Consequently, Chermiti’s long-term absence has accelerated the recruitment department’s efforts to secure another center-forward before the transfer window closes. The club’s transfer plans have been reshuffled to prioritize an immediate, high-caliber striker replacement who can step into the starting lineup. With the clock ticking toward the deadline, Rangers must act swiftly in the market to ensure the squad maintains the necessary firepower to compete effectively.
