We can today confirm the signing of Kosta Nedeljković from Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy, subject to international clearance.
The 20-year-old right-back becomes Rangers’ eleventh signing of a busy summer window, giving Derek McInnes the attacking option at full-back he has been pursuing since James Tavernier’s departure at the end of last season. The manager has been in regular personal contact with Nedeljković throughout the window, a key factor in persuading the Serbian international that Ibrox was the right destination.
A graduate of the Red Star Belgrade academy, Nedeljković joined Aston Villa in January 2024 in a deal worth around £8 million, but opportunities under Unai Emery proved limited, restricting him to just ten senior appearances. He has since spent the last two seasons out on loan in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, gaining valuable experience despite fitness setbacks along the way. He has been capped at senior level by Serbia since his debut in 2024, underlining the pedigree behind the move.
Pace, height and a willingness to get forward from full-back are the qualities that stand out most in his game, and it is exactly that attacking threat that has been missing from the right side of the Rangers defence. The obligation to buy, understood to be worth in the region of £4 million, is structured around appearances, meaning the move becomes permanent once Nedeljković reaches an agreed number of games for the club this season.
Everyone at Rangers would like to welcome Kosta to Ibrox and wish him well as he begins this new chapter of his career. Formalities around his squad number and official unveiling will follow in the coming days, with supporters set to get their first look at the club’s newest arrival shortly.
