Rumours on X (formerly Twitter) have suggested that Port Vale could be interested in a second Sheffield Wednesday player.
The Valiants raised eyebrows when they brought George Byers to Vale Park earlier this summer, reuniting him with his former Wednesday manager Darren Moore. Now, social media sources claim Moore may be interested in another of his former players – winger Mallik Wilks.
Port Vale’s signings so far…

One tweet suggests:
Port Vale have enquired about a potential move for Malik Wilks, which would see him link up with former team mate George Byers.
The winger has struggled to make an impact for #SWFC since his arrival in the summer of 2022 scoring 3 in 42 appearances

Wilks appears to be out of favour at Sheffield Wednesday and after the player had a stellar seasons in League One for Hull City, his signing would be regarded as another coup by League Two Vale.
The wideman scored 22 times for Hull back in the 2020-21 season but has had less impact at Hillsborough after moving there in 2022. However, the 25 year-old was also affected by injury last season which may be a concern for the Vale.
It is yet to be seen if there are any legs in the rumour, but it is conceivable that the player may regard being a key player in League Two as more preferable than being on the fringes of the squad in the Championship. In previous seasons, a move for a player such as Wilks would be placed in the “highly unlikely” category but after some eye catching and ambitious moves this summer, perhaps there is more chance of this rumour happening.
