Todd Cantwell personal terms not agreed for permanent Rangers exit to Blackburn Rovers

According to an update on the outlet’s website on 30 August (10.52am) the midfielder’s contract at Ewood Park still needs to be settled despite him being in the process of a medical at the English Championship side.

A £500,000 transfer has been reached between the clubs and the 26-year-old is believed to have agreed to the move in principle [Daily Record, 29 August].

Cantwell has been training with the B Team since asking to leave the club, with the fanbase increasingly unhappy about the situation.

If the former Norwich City man has agreed to the move itself then his agent must surely have a pretty good idea of what is on offer for him in John Eustace’s squad.

And relatively speaking there is still plenty of time for an agreement on terms to be finalised with hours left before the 11pm deadline.

But the prospect of the deal falling through and Cantwell ending up back at Ibrox to fester in the reserves is not one that Philippe Clement will want to deal with, especially when he needs space on the wage bill and in the squad to bring in new signings before the deadline.

Sassuolo’s Nedim Bajrami is being pursued as a priority [Daily Record, 29 August] and the Albanian would appear to be a replacement for Cantwell.

A loan deal is thought to be close [Football Scotland, 30 August] but may not be possible if the Englishman decides against completing an exit back south of the border.

And a contract termination could be on the cards if the transfer doesn’t go through [PLZ Soccer, 26 August] which would be far less financially desirable, although that outcome is on the table for Ianis Hagi either way [Daily Record, 29 August].
