Steve Hogarth Announces Permanent Departure from Marillion
After more than three decades fronting one of progressive rock’s most enduring bands, Steve Hogarth has officially announced his permanent departure from Marillion.
Hogarth, who joined the band in 1989 following the departure of original singer Fish, brought a new voice and emotional depth to Marillion’s music. Over the course of 36 years, he became not just the face of the band, but the heart of its second era — a time marked by critically acclaimed albums like Brave, Afraid of Sunlight, and Marbles.
In a heartfelt statement, Hogarth thanked fans for their support across generations, calling his time in the band “the journey of a lifetime.” He noted that the decision was not made lightly, but came from a personal need to close one chapter and begin another. “It’s time,” he wrote. “Time to take a breath, to rediscover, and to create from a different space.”
Bandmates Steve Rothery, Pete Trewavas, Mark Kelly, and Ian Mosley issued a joint message expressing deep gratitude for Hogarth’s contribution to the group’s legacy. “Steve helped us find our voice again after a period of uncertainty. What we built together will always be special,” the message read.
As of now, there is no announcement about a replacement or what direction the band may take. Marillion is expected to continue, though perhaps with a different shape and sound.
For fans, Hogarth’s departure marks the end of a remarkable era. While his future projects remain under wraps, there is every indication that he will continue creating—just not under the Marillion banner.
The music world watches closely now, as both Hogarth and Marillion prepare to step into unknown but promising territory.
