SAGA Announces Indefinite Hiatus After Nearly 50 Years: ‘It’s Time to Rest’
June 20, 2025 — Toronto, Canada
In a heartfelt and unexpected statement released today, legendary Canadian progressive rock band SAGA has announced an indefinite hiatus, effectively putting a pause on all touring and recording activities after nearly five decades in the music scene.
The news was shared through the band’s official social media channels and website, accompanied by a reflective message from frontman Michael Sadler, who thanked fans for their “unwavering loyalty, passion, and support through the decades.”
“We never imagined this journey would last nearly 50 years,” Sadler wrote. “From the first note we played together in the ’70s to the last encore we performed this year, it’s been an incredible ride. But now, it’s time to rest — to be with our families, reflect, and let the music breathe.”
Sources close to the band emphasize that this is not a breakup, but rather a necessary step back as key members, including Sadler and guitarist Ian Crichton, face increasing physical demands from touring and performing. Bassist and founding member Jim Crichton, who stepped away from live performances in recent years, reportedly encouraged the decision.
The hiatus comes shortly after the band wrapped up their critically acclaimed “Echoes from the Future” European Tour, which sold out venues in Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK — further proving their enduring popularity in the global prog-rock scene.
While no timeline was given for a possible return, the band hinted at archival releases and remastered classics in the near future. Fans are already flooding forums and tribute pages with memories, support, and hope for a future reunion.
“This isn’t goodbye,” Sadler concluded. “It’s just… see you later.”
