Chelsea endured a difficult first half against Paris Saint-Germain in their UEFA Champions League encounter, going into the break trailing 2–1 after a series of defensive lapses and missed opportunities. While the Blues showed flashes of attacking intent, several players struggled to cope with the pace and intensity of the match at the Parc des Princes.
Here are some of the worst performers for Chelsea during the first half.
1. Marc Cucurella
Spanish defender Marc Cucurella had a challenging opening 45 minutes. Tasked with dealing with PSG’s fast attacking movements, the left-back found himself constantly under pressure. His positioning was questionable during one of PSG’s goals, as he allowed too much space on the flank for the hosts to deliver a dangerous cross.
Cucurella also struggled in one-on-one situations, often forced backward by PSG’s quick wingers. His passing was also inconsistent, leading to several turnovers that allowed the French side to launch dangerous counterattacks.
2. Benoît Badiashile
Central defender Benoît Badiashile also endured a tough first half against the PSG attack. The Frenchman looked uncertain when dealing with through balls and struggled to keep the defensive line organized.
During PSG’s second goal, Badiashile appeared slow to react, allowing the attacker to slip behind him and finish clinically. His lack of communication with the rest of the backline contributed to Chelsea’s defensive instability throughout the half.
3. Moisés Caicedo
Midfielder Moisés Caicedo had difficulty controlling the tempo in midfield. Usually known for his ball-winning ability, Caicedo looked overwhelmed by PSG’s pressing and fast transitions.
Several misplaced passes from the Ecuadorian midfielder disrupted Chelsea’s build-up play, while he also struggled to track runners coming from deep. His inability to shield the defense effectively allowed PSG to dominate large spells of the first half.
Chelsea Need a Strong Response
Despite trailing 2–1 at halftime, Chelsea F.C. still have a chance to turn the game around if they improve defensively and become more composed in possession. Manager adjustments and better performances from key players will be crucial in the second half.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint‑Germain will look to maintain their momentum and capitalize on Chelsea’s defensive vulnerabilities as the Champions League clash continues.
