  • Prog Rock Earthquake: Steve Hogarth Quits Marillion, Forms New Band with Fish

In a jaw-dropping turn of events, Steve Hogarth has officially parted ways with Marillion and announced the formation of a brand-new band—alongside none other than Fish, the band’s original frontman. The news, revealed via a surprise press conference and simultaneous online announcement, has sent shockwaves through the progressive rock world.

Hogarth, who took over Marillion’s vocal duties in 1989 following Fish’s dramatic exit, has been a defining voice of the band for over 35 years. His departure marks the end of an era. But rather than fade into the background or pursue a solo path, Hogarth has joined forces with the very man whose shoes he once filled.

“After decades of walking parallel roads, we’ve decided to finally walk one together,” said Hogarth, standing alongside Fish during the announcement. “This isn’t about the past. It’s about rediscovering what’s possible.”

Tentatively named “Ghostlight,” the new band promises to fuse the theatrical flair of Fish’s lyricism with the emotional depth of Hogarth’s melodic sensibility. Though stylistically different, both singers have expressed a deep mutual respect and a desire to break new ground. Their debut album is already in pre-production, with a 2026 tour being mapped out.

Fish, who had long vowed never to rejoin Marillion or revisit the past, called the new project “a fresh chapter, not a footnote,” and joked that “hell must have finally frozen over.”

Fans are reeling from the double bombshell—Hogarth’s departure and the unprecedented team-up. Social media exploded within minutes, with longtime Marillion followers torn between disbelief and ecstatic curiosity.

Marillion has yet to release an official statement, though insiders report the band was “blindsided” by the announcement.

One thing is clear: progressive rock history has just been rewritten.
