Netflix to Premiere “Cult of Poppy” Documentary This Year
Netflix has officially announced the upcoming release of Cult of Poppy, a revealing new documentary chronicling the artistic rise and mysterious persona of genre-defying musician and performance artist Poppy. Slated for release later this year, the film promises an unprecedented look into the transformation of Moriah Rose Pereira from internet enigma to global music phenomenon.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Ava Martinez, the documentary dives deep into the duality of Poppy’s identity—the digital illusion versus the human behind it. Featuring never-before-seen backstage footage, raw studio sessions, and exclusive interviews, Cult of Poppy traces her unconventional path through pop, metal, and experimental art.
The film explores Poppy’s viral early days, her controversial creative partnerships, her breakout metalcore success with I Disagree, and the emotional and sonic depth of her latest album Negative Spaces. For the first time, viewers will see the real Moriah reflect on fame, alienation, creative control, and the price of reinvention.
Also featured are intimate contributions from collaborators such as Jordan Fish, Ali Payami, and Johnuel Hasney, who speak to her relentless innovation and powerful presence—both onstage and off. Performance clips from her latest sold-out tour are woven throughout, capturing her evolution as one of music’s most unpredictable forces.
Netflix describes the film as a “visual and emotional immersion into the world of a woman who refused to be defined by any genre, label, or expectation.” Promotional materials hint at a trailer release in the coming weeks, followed by a global streaming premiere before year’s end.
Cult of Poppy joins Netflix’s growing slate of music documentaries, standing out as one of the most anticipated cultural profiles of the year—especially for fans of artists who blur the lines between identity, performance,
and sound.
