Netflix Confirms Release Date for Groundbreaking Tangerine Dream Documentary
Los Angeles, 7 July 2025 — Netflix has officially confirmed the release date for its highly anticipated documentary “Tangerine Dream: Echoes in the Machine”, a visually rich and sonically immersive exploration of the legendary German electronic music pioneers. The film will premiere worldwide on the 18th, exclusively on Netflix.
The documentary delves into the band’s revolutionary journey from the experimental underground scene of 1960s Berlin to their status as global pioneers of electronic and ambient music. Directed by Asa Mikkelsen, the film features never-before-seen archival footage, personal journals of the late Edgar Froese, and behind-the-scenes material from iconic albums like Phaedra, Rubycon, and Stratosfear.
Viewers can expect interviews with current members Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane, and Paul Frick, alongside heartfelt tributes from major industry names including Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor, and Brian Eno.
In a statement, Netflix’s VP of Music and Culture Content, Sophia Mendoza, said:
> “This film is a journey through time, sound, and space. Tangerine Dream didn’t just compose music—they built sonic landscapes that forever changed how we hear the world.”
The documentary also touches on the band’s contributions to film scores, spotlighting cult-classic soundtracks for Thief, Risky Business, and Firestarter. In conjunction with the release, Netflix will launch a companion short series that dives into their studio process and modern-day legacy.
The announcement coincides with Tangerine Dream’s ongoing European tour, including major stops in Poland and France. Special preview screenings and fan events are scheduled in Berlin, London, and Los Angeles.
