Netflix Announces Documentary on Fish: A Farewell to the Iconic Marillion Frontman
Netflix has confirmed the production of a documentary chronicling the life and career of Fish, the former lead singer of the progressive rock band Marillion. The film will delve into Fish’s journey from his early days with Marillion to his successful solo career, highlighting his musical achievements and personal milestones. The documentary aims to offer fans an intimate look at the man behind the music, featuring exclusive interviews, archival footage, and insights into his creative process.
Fish, born Derek William Dick, gained prominence in the 1980s as the charismatic frontman of Marillion, known for their theatrical performances and complex compositions. His departure from the band in 1988 marked the beginning of a prolific solo career, during which he released several acclaimed albums and maintained a dedicated fanbase.
The documentary will also explore Fish’s recent decision to retire from the music industry. In 2025, he concluded his farewell tour, “Road to the Isles,” with a final performance in Glasgow. Following the tour, Fish and his wife relocated to a 35-acre croft on the island of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides, where he plans to focus on writing and other creative endeavors. The film will capture this transition, offering a poignant conclusion to his musical journey.
Netflix is set to release the documentary in late 2025, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Marillion’s iconic album Misplaced Childhood. Fans can look forward to a comprehensive and heartfelt tribute to one of rock’s most distinctive voices.
