Matt Skiba Announces Permanent Departure from Alkaline Trio: ‘A Bittersweet Goodbye’
In a heartfelt message posted to his social media channels this morning, Matt Skiba has announced he is permanently leaving Alkaline Trio, the beloved punk-rock band he co-founded nearly 30 years ago. Skiba, 49, thanked fans for decades of support, calling the decision “bittersweet but necessary.” He cited a desire to focus on new creative ventures and personal growth, stating, “Alkaline Trio has been a home and a family, but it’s time for me to pursue other dreams and challenges.”
Bandmate Dan Andriano released a brief statement expressing sadness and support, saying, “Matt’s voice and vision built this band. We wouldn’t be here without him, and we wish him nothing but happiness in his next chapter.”
The band was scheduled to tour through early 2026 in support of their latest album, Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs, but management confirmed those plans are now on hold. It’s unclear if Alkaline Trio will continue without Skiba, or if this signals the end of the band as fans know it.
Skiba closed his announcement by thanking the fans who “gave life and meaning” to the songs he created, adding, “You are the reason we made it this far. I will forever be grateful for every moment, every show, and every note we shared.”
Fans have flooded social media with messages of love, heartbreak, and support, marking the end of an era for the iconic band.
