The track, co-written by Newton-John and her long-time collaborator Jim Brickman, was discovered among old cassette tapes after her passing in August 2022.
“My Dream,” which features Italian vocal trio Il Volo, was unveiled on September 20, 2024. The song originated from a writing session approximately 15 years ago but had remained unfinished until Brickman stumbled upon the demo. He decided to complete the track as a tribute to his dear friend, and all proceeds from the song’s release are dedicated to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund for cancer research, a cause incredibly close to her heart.
Brickman shared that the song initially started as a romantic duet but evolved to hold deeper meaning for Newton-John, resonating with her “dream and hope for a cure for cancer.” The version released is from that original recording session at Newton-John’s Malibu home, maintaining the authenticity of her performance.
The release of “My Dream” adds to Olivia Newton-John’s enduring musical legacy, providing fans with a beautiful new piece of her artistry. This follows other posthumous releases, including the “Just the Two of Us: The Duets Collection (Vol. 1)” in May 2023, which featured unreleased duets, and the reimagined holiday album “Angels in the Snow” released in November 2024.
