Scott Wright exit update emerges at Rangers despite new Sheffield Wednesday development
Scott Wright is expected to complete his summer Rangers exit in the “next few days” amid links with Sheffield Wednesday, according to The Fourth Official.
The outlet reported via its YouTube channel (10 July, 4:50) that while the winger is in the Netherlands for the Gers’ pre-season training camp, he could depart early to complete a move away from Ibrox.
Reports had suggested the Scotsman was closing in on a move to Hillsborough [The Sun, 7 July], but that has been thrown into doubt with The Star (10 July) suggesting the Owls are not interested in signing the 26-year-old.
Speaking on YouTube, The Fourth Official said: “We reported last week that Sheffield Wednesday were very close to securing a deal for Scott Wright.
“It was reported earlier this week that there was a medical booked for Scott Wright, now he is currently in the Netherlands with the rest of the Rangers squad but like Robby McCrorie should that deal get completed he will obviously leave Holland and travel back to the UK.
“I very much expect Scott Wright not to be a Rangers player come the next few days.”
Will Sheffield Wednesday sign Scott Wright amid Rangers exit speculation?
It is quite clear that Wright is almost surplus to requirements at Ibrox currently, with Philippe Clement willing to part ways with the Scotsman if the right offer arrives for his services in the coming days.
Whether or not that offer will come from Sheffield Wednesday now seems doubtful as local sources with knowledge of the club seem insistent that the Owls don’t intend on taking the 26-year-old away from Glasgow.
Things can always change quickly in the transfer window and it only takes one offer for this entire saga to be turned on its head. One way or another, The Fourth Official seem confident Wright won’t be a Rangers player for much longer.
