Jamie Carragher: There is no chance Everton will be relegated under Sean Dyche despite woeful start to 2024-25

The Toffees have scored twice and conceded ten times, and some are already tipping them for relegation, especially after they finished 15th last term, 17th in 2022-23 and 16th in 2021-22.

However, Jamie Carragher is confident that manager Sean Dyche can take Everton to safety for the third season running, tipping the Goodison Park club to stay up despite another underwhelming start to a season.

“The club were 19th in the Premier League when he took over in January 2023, but he turned around what looked like a hopeless position to secure top-flight status in the last game,” Carragher wrote in the Telegraph.

“The predictions of doom were even greater when Everton were twice docked Premier League points last season. Internally and externally, no one can assess the past 20 months at Everton and argue against the fact that Dyche has performed admirably, and excelled in a situation in which many others would have wilted.

“Despite another terrible start to this campaign, with many anticipating the losing streak will continue at Aston Villa this weekend, there is no chance Everton will be relegated under Dyche. He has proven his capacity to navigate teams through a 38-game campaign and get the most from his team, more often than not having them punch above their weight. There are at least three Premier League sides who are worse than Everton.”

Not plenty of Everton fans will be as confident as Carragher about their survival chances under Dyche this term, especially after watching Bournemouth come from 2-0 down from the 87th minute to win 3-2 at Goodison Park last time out.

However, the former Burnley manager has proven his mettle over the years when it comes to relegation battles, and he has what it takes to guide the Blues to safety again.

Whether he will be around for much longer remains to be seen, though, as John Textor could complete his proposed takeover soon.

The American businessman is preparing for life without Dyche in the dugout and reportedly wants Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira or his AC Milan counterpart Paulo Fonseca as the next Everton boss.
