Spain – Indiana Fever forward Chloe Bibby was reportedly taken into custody by Spanish authorities early this morning following a routine inspection at her hotel in Valencia.

Spanish National Police confirmed an individual matching Bibby’s description was arrested in connection with drug possession but declined to release the suspect’s name pending formal charges and notification of the Australian embassy. If the substance is confirmed to be cocaine or another Class A drug under Spanish law, Bibby could face misdemeanor to felony charges carrying potential penalties of up to three years imprisonment, though first-time offenders frequently receive suspended sentences or fines.
The Indiana Fever organization released a brief statement late Monday evening (U.S. time): “We are aware of the reports concerning Chloe Bibby and are gathering information. The team will have no further comment until the situation is clarified by the appropriate authorities.”
Bibby joined the Fever mid-2025 on a hardship contract and appeared in 14 games before a season-ending knee injury sidelined her in September. Known for her versatile forward play and rebounding tenacity, she had been expected to compete for a full roster spot in 2026.
Teammates and league officials have so far remained silent on social media, though several WNBA players changed profile pictures to black squares—a gesture sometimes used to signal support during legal troubles. Australian basketball federation representatives said they were “monitoring the matter closely” but offered no additional details.
The incident has already sparked heated debate among fans, with some calling for immediate release from the Fever while others urged waiting for due process. Bibby’s representatives have not issued a public response as of press time.
Further updates are expected once formal charges—if any—are filed later this week.
