John Fleck has arrived as our final signing of the January window, with the experienced two-time Championship promotion winner arriving from Sheffield United on a deal until the end of the season
To help you get to know Rovers’ new recruit a bit better, here are five fascinating facts about the centre-back…
- Fleck came through the academy at Rangers and went on to make his debut in the Scottish FA Cup against East Stirling, appearing as a 68th-minute substitute in the 6-0 win at Ibrox back in January 2008. The first start of Fleck’s career came for the Glasgow giants in a 2-0 defeat to Aberdeen at the end of the 2007-08 campaign, playing in the same midfield as former Rovers captain Barry Ferguson, who was Fleck’s idol as a youngster.
- Following a loan spell at Blackpool, Fleck linked up with Coventry City in the summer of 2012, appearing over 150 times during his four years with the Sky Blues, where he played under ex-Rovers boss Tony Mowbray and our former player in Adam Armstrong and won the Player of the Year award in his final season with the club.
- The 32-year-old enjoyed an excellent eight-year spell with Sheffield United prior to his move to Rovers, appearing 278 times for the Blades, achieving three promotions with the club and winning the Player of the Year award on two occasions during his time at Bramall Lane.
- On the international scene, Fleck has five caps to his name, with his debut coming alongside former Rovers captain Charlie Mulgrew in a Euro 2022 defeat to Russia in Moscow.
- He’s not the only member of the Fleck family to have a cap for Scotland, with uncle Robert, who played for the likes of Rangers, Norwich City and Chelsea, earning four caps for his country between 1990 and 1992.
