David Gilmour Honored with Prestigious O2 Silver Clef Award
Pink Floyd’s legendary guitarist and vocalist, David Gilmour, has been named the latest recipient of the esteemed O2 Silver Clef Award. The honor recognizes his immense contribution to the music industry, celebrating a career that has influenced generations of artists and fans alike. Gilmour will officially receive the award on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at a special ceremony held at London’s JW Marriott Grosvenor House.
The O2 Silver Clef Awards, organized by Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s largest music therapy charity, have been a significant fundraising event since their inception in 1976. Over the years, the event has raised more than £13.5 million to support music therapy programs that help individuals with various challenges, including autism, dementia, and mental health conditions. This year’s ceremony will also recognize Rick Astley with the Outstanding Achievement in Music Award, IDLES as Best Live Act, and Soul II Soul for their contributions to music innovation.
Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Gilmour shared his appreciation for the charity’s mission. “It’s such an honor to receive the O2 Silver Clef Award. Music speaks its own language, and it’s inspiring to see Nordoff and Robbins using it to make a real difference in people’s lives. What they do reminds us of music’s ability to reach across boundaries and bring people together,” he stated. Gilmour joins an illustrious list of past recipients, including Iron Maiden, Jimmy Page, The Clash, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, The Who, Eric Clapton, and his former band, Pink Floyd.
Sandra Schembri, CEO of Nordoff and Robbins, emphasized the event’s importance in supporting the charity’s work. “With the help of the incredible artists and industry support, we are tackling increasing demand, rising costs, and declining donations head-on. Running our charity costs over £8 million annually, and the funds raised through the O2 Silver Clef Awards are vital to ensuring we can continue providing life-changing music therapy to those who need it most,” she explained. As the event nears its 50th anniversary, its role in sustaining these programs remains as crucial as ever.
The O2 Silver Clef Awards is known for its star-studded blue carpet, bringing together music legends and industry icons. Hosted once again by Carrie and David Grant, the evening will feature live auctions with exclusive memorabilia and experiences to maximize fundraising efforts. With such an impressive lineup of honorees and supporters, this year’s event promises to be a remarkable celebration of music’s power to heal and connect.
