Catamounts Set to Host UConn for First Time Since 1989 Tuesday Night

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont (5-1-4, 1-0-1 AE) men’s soccer team which is currently on a nine-game unbeaten run will host UConn (7-0-3, 2-0-1 Big East) Tuesday night in the Catamounts final non-conference regular season contest. The regional showdown from Virtue Field is set for 6 p.m. The action will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Brian McLaughlin on the call.

Tuesday is UVM Employee Appreciation Night, all UVM employees with a valid CATcard will receive free admission at the box office. Dunkin’ will also be on-site Tuesday distributing swag and product samples.

Catamounts Set to Host UConn for First Time Since 1989 Tuesday Night -  University of Vermont Athletics

INSIDE THE MATCHUP

  • The Huskies are one of just six teams (Ohio State, Denver, West Virginia, Western Michigan, James Madison & UConn) in the NCAA who remain undefeated this season. It is the first time UConn has been unbeaten through its first 10 games since 2012.
  • Redshirt First Year Max Kerkvliet has kept three straight clean sheets entering Tuesday’s matchup. His .857 save percentage is second-best in the NCAA this season.
  • Junior forward Eli Conway and redshirt First Year Sabri Hanni are tied for the team lead with 10 points this season.
  • The Catamounts will be UConn’s second America East opponent this season. On August 29 the Huskies topped NJIT 2-1 at home.
  • Tuesday’s battle will be critical in the RPI. UConn is currently 52nd while the Catamounts are 53rd.
  • UConn has played the Catamounts at home 12 times in program history with UVM holding an 8-4-0 mark. Overall UVM is 11-17-1 against their New England rival.
  • UConn last came to Burlington in the Opening Round of the 1989 NCAA Tournament. UVM topped UConn 2-0 from Centennial Field to extend their unbeaten streak to 19 games.
  • Last season UVM defeated the Huskies on the road on October 3 by a score of 2-0. Carter Johnson and Yaniv Bazini scored for Vermont.

KISSEL NAMED AMERICA EAST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

  • Maximilian Kissel was named AE Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after producing his second brace of the season Saturday night at UAlbany.
  • Kissel leads America East in goals (six) and points (14) this season.

CATAMOUNT OFFENSE CONTINUES TO IMPRESS

  • Since 2021 the Catamounts are 20-0-0 when scoring three or more goals.
  • The Catamounts haven’t lost a game since August 22 and currently on a nine-game unbeaten streak.
  • The Catamounts are scoring 2.4 goals-per game which ranks 12th nationally. In the last six games Vermont has scored 20 goals.
  • UVM ranks 13th nationally with 15.7 shots-per game.
  • The Catamounts rank first in America East in goal differential (+13) and goals per game (2.40).
