Caitlin Clark and United States women’s national basketball team earned a convincing victory over Puerto Rico women’s national basketball team on Thursday night, finishing the game with a dominant 91–48 scoreline. While the action on the court showcased Team USA’s strength, many fans online were just as focused on a moment off the court. Cameras captured Clark’s boyfriend sitting courtside, and the clip quickly circulated across social media, sparking reactions from fans who noticed his presence during the matchup.

The person drawing attention was Connor McCaffery, who currently works as a coach at Butler Bulldogs men’s basketball team. McCaffery had just experienced a tough loss the previous night when Butler fell 91–81 to Providence Friars men’s basketball team. Despite the setback, the defeat allowed him to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico in time to watch Clark compete in the remaining World Cup qualifying games. He was seated alongside Clark’s parents, Brent Clark and Anne Nizzi-Clark, as they cheered on the rising basketball star.
Fans React to the Courtside Moment
Social media users quickly reacted to the appearance of Clark’s family and boyfriend in the arena. Several posts highlighted the trio supporting the Indiana Fever guard from the stands. Some fans simply pointed out their presence, while others expressed excitement about seeing McCaffery there to back Clark during the international competition. Although Butler’s loss was disappointing for him professionally, many fans appreciated the fact that it gave him the chance to show up and support Clark in person.
Mixed Night for Clark on the Court
On the basketball side of things, Clark had a quieter performance compared with her impressive debut earlier in the tournament. The Indiana Fever guard finished the game with eight points and three rebounds, shooting 2-of-6 from the field. Her previous outing against Senegal women’s national basketball team had been far more explosive, as she recorded 17 points and 12 assists in a standout performance.
Strong Performances from Reese and Bueckers
Even with Clark’s modest stat line, several teammates stepped up offensively. Angel Reese delivered one of the game’s best performances, recording a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds along with two assists in limited minutes. Paige Bueckers led all scorers with 16 points on efficient shooting, while Kelsey Plum and Kiki Iriafen also contributed to the team’s offensive rhythm. Overall, the atmosphere around the team remained positive as Clark — the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year — continues representing the national squad with her family and supporters watching proudly from the stands.
