Former Rangers star suspended after testing positive for banned substance!
Football fans have been left stunned following the news that former Rangers defender Jefté has been handed a provisional suspension after failing a doping test. The 22-year-old Brazilian full-back, who currently plays for South American giants Palmeiras, tested positive for furosemide during an out-of-competition anti-doping check conducted in early August. Furosemide, commonly prescribed as a diuretic, is classified as a specified banned substance by sports anti-doping authorities due to its potential use as a masking agent, leading to an immediate temporary ban while the case is investigated.
The news was confirmed in an official statement released by Palmeiras, outlining that the player has agreed to voluntarily step away from all team activities until the matter is fully evaluated by the Anti-Doping Sports Justice Tribunal. According to the club, Jefté clarified that his ingestion of the medication occurred entirely outside the club environment, without the prior knowledge or authorization of Palmeiras’ Health and Performance Unit, and was completely involuntary and inadvertent.
Jefté’s career has moved at a rapid pace over recent seasons, making his sudden suspension all the more impactful. During his spell with Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers, the dynamic left-back caught the eye with his energetic attacking runs and athleticism, earning a loyal following among the Ibrox faithful before making his high-profile move back to Brazil. Supporters in Glasgow and São Paulo alike have been reacting to the development, with many hoping that the young defender can quickly provide clarity to the tribunal and clear his name.
Palmeiras emphasized that they are closely monitoring the legal process and remain confident in a swift resolution for their star defender. As the hearing before the Anti-Doping Sports Justice Tribunal approaches, Jefté faces a critical period off the pitch that could shape the next chapter of his promising career. Fans will be keeping a close eye on further updates as the formal proceedings unfold in the coming weeks.
