The pressure cooking inside Parkhead has boiled over into an explosive war of words as former Celtic striker Chris Sutton launched a scathing attack on key defender Cameron Carter-Vickers. In the wake of a nightmare stretch that saw the Hoops suffer three consecutive defeats—including a pair of back-to-back Old Firm losses to bitter rivals Rangers—tensions have breached the dressing room walls. Following Celtic’s recent 1-0 league defeat at home, Carter-Vickers gave a candid post-match assessment, admitting the team lacked tactical consistency and clarity in their play. That honest critique immediately sent shockwaves across Scottish football, escalating the managerial saga surrounding Martin O’Neill.
Sutton pulled zero punches in his response, branding Carter-Vickers’ public observations as “disgraceful” for airing internal grievances in the media. The outspoken pundit voiced serious concerns that the center-back’s comments signal a deeper, alarming disconnect between the squad and O’Neill’s coaching staff. Sutton argued that publicly questioning the manager’s tactical instructions during a crisis only undermines O’Neill further, pointing toward a fractured dressing room at the precise moment unity is desperately needed.
The fallout comes at a crucial crossroads for Celtic as O’Neill takes time during the international break to reflect on his immediate future. With the Hoops struggling for identity on the pitch and the board facing heat over summer recruitment, the brutal reaction inside Parkhead highlights a club in turmoil. As supporters await O’Neill’s decision on whether he will continue in the dugout, Sutton’s harsh rebuke has exposed the growing cracks within the squad.
