New Thin Lizzy Documentary in the Works—Featuring Never-Before-Seen Phil Lynott Footage
June 20, 2025 | Dublin – Legendary Irish rock band Thin Lizzy is set to return to screens in a big way as production begins on a brand-new documentary chronicling their iconic career. What sets this project apart? It promises to feature never-before-seen footage of frontman Phil Lynott, including personal interviews, backstage moments, and rare concert clips that were long thought to be lost.
The untitled film is being developed by an Irish production team in close collaboration with Lynott’s estate and surviving band members, including Scott Gorham and Brian Downey. According to insiders, the documentary will delve into the band’s rise during the 1970s, the cultural impact of Jailbreak, and Lynott’s influence both as a musician and a trailblazing Black Irish rock icon.
The team reportedly uncovered over 20 hours of unseen footage, including home recordings, handwritten lyrics, and candid conversations with Lynott filmed just months before his death in 1986.
Set for release in early 2026, the documentary will premiere in Dublin before heading to international film festivals and streaming platforms. A special soundtrack album is also in development, featuring rare live recordings and remastered classics.
