Sinner’s French Open Dream Ends in Heartbreak
Paris, France – June 11, 2025 – Jannik Sinner’s impressive run at the 2025 French Open concluded in a grueling five-set final against rival Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, June 8th. Despite a flawless fortnight that saw him reach the final without dropping a set, including a dominant semifinal victory over Novak Djokovic, the Italian fell short of claiming his first Roland Garros title.
Sinner, currently ranked World No. 1, was firmly in control, holding a two-set lead and facing three championship points in the fourth set. However, Alcaraz staged a remarkable comeback, saving those points and eventually winning the match in a final set tiebreaker. The final score was 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(10-2) in favor of Alcaraz, in what has been described as one of the greatest French Open finals in history, lasting over five and a half hours.
Reflecting on the match, Sinner acknowledged the disappointment, stating, “This one hurts.” He emphasized the special nature of the rivalry with Alcaraz, noting that “it’s good to see that we can produce also tennis like this, because I think it’s good for the whole movement of tennis and the crowd.”
The 23-year-old will now look to recover from the loss and set his sights on the upcoming Wimbledon Championships. Both Sinner and Alcaraz are expected to be key contenders at the grass-court Grand Slam, with many pundits predicting their rivalry will define men’s tennis for the next decade. Sinner had previously won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year.
