Mike Patton Announces Collaborative Album with John Zorn and Bill Laswell – A Groundbreaking Avant-Garde Masterpiece
Mike Patton is set to embark on yet another daring musical adventure with the announcement of a collaborative album alongside avant-garde legends John Zorn and Bill Laswell. The trio has been secretly working on the project throughout 2024, with the album—tentatively titled “Chaos Orchestra”—scheduled for release in early 2026 via Ipecac Recordings.
This collaboration unites three of the most influential and fearless figures in experimental music. Patton, with his staggering vocal versatility, Zorn, the avant-garde saxophonist and composer renowned for his boundary-pushing works, and Laswell, a prolific bassist and producer known for genre-blending innovation, promise an album that defies categorization.
In a joint statement, Patton explained: “This album isn’t about fitting in or being safe. It’s about tearing down walls—between genres, between sounds, between listeners and the music. John, Bill, and I share a love for sonic anarchy.”
The sessions reportedly blend elements of jazz, metal, noise, free improvisation, and world music, with Patton’s vocals ranging from guttural screams to whispered chants layered over intricate compositions by Zorn and Laswell.
Insiders say the album features contributions from other notable avant-garde musicians, including Mike Pride on drums and Ikue Mori on electronics. The project also includes a limited-edition deluxe box set featuring artwork by Patton himself and Zorn’s signature graphic style.
Fans can look forward to a supporting tour in 2026, where the trio will perform live improvisations alongside tracks from Chaos Orchestra, promising an intense, unpredictable experience for audiences worldwide.
With Chaos Orchestra, Mike Patton once again proves he’s a restless innovator, constantly pushing the limits of what music can be.
