Megadeth Cancels Select Asian Tour Dates Amid COVID-19 Resurgence

American thrash metal pioneers Megadeth have announced the cancellation of several upcoming tour dates across Asia due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the region. The cancellations affect scheduled performances in Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Jakarta, and Manila, which were part of the band’s ongoing “Destroy All Enemies” world tour.

In an official statement released on their website and social media platforms, Megadeth expressed regret over the decision, citing health and safety concerns for fans, crew, and local staff. “While we were eagerly anticipating performing for our fans in Asia, the health and safety of everyone involved remain our top priority,” the statement read.

The decision comes as several countries in Asia have reported a spike in COVID-19 cases, leading to renewed travel restrictions and limitations on large gatherings. Local authorities in affected cities have reinstated measures to curb the spread of the virus, impacting the feasibility of large-scale events such as concerts.

Fans who purchased tickets for the canceled shows are advised to contact their point of purchase for refund information. Megadeth has assured fans that they are working closely with local promoters to reschedule the affected dates when it is safe and feasible to do so.

This is not the first time Megadeth has faced disruptions due to health concerns. In 2019, the band canceled several tour dates following frontman Dave Mustaine’s throat cancer diagnosis. More recently, the global pandemic in 2020 led to widespread cancellations and postponements across the music industry, affecting numerous artists and events worldwide.

The cancellations underscore the ongoing challenges faced by touring artists amid the evolving pandemic landscape. As countries navigate the complexities of reopening and managing public health, the live music industry continues to adapt to ensure the safety of performers and audiences alike.

Megadeth’s management has indicated that updates regarding the rescheduling of the Asian tour dates will be provided as the situation develops. Fans are encouraged to stay informed through the band’s official channels for the latest news and announcements.
