The incident occurred late in the third quarter over the expansion Tempo. Collier, making her home return after missing the first half of the season with ankle issues, was driving baseline when Mabrey closed hard on the help defense. The two players met with a jarring impact—shoulders and hips colliding at full speed—sending Collier tumbling to the hardwood. She remained down for several moments, clutching her side and grimacing before teammates and medical staff helped her to her feet.
As she was escorted toward the tunnel, cameras captured Collier wiping away tears. The 2024 Defensive Player of the Year had been playing with her usual intensity, finishing with 15 points in limited action before the collision. Mabrey, who poured in a game-high 25 points with eight rebounds and six assists, was assessed a common foul on the play. No flagrant was called, though Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was seen animatedly discussing the contact with officials.
