Netflix Announces Official Release Date for New King Crimson Documentary
Netflix has officially announced that its upcoming documentary on the legendary progressive rock band King Crimson will be released on October 18, 2025. The film, a deep dive into the band’s five-decade career, promises to offer an unfiltered, behind-the-scenes look at one of the most innovative and enigmatic groups in rock history.
Titled “In the Court of the Crimson King: King Crimson at 50,” the documentary is directed by Toby Amies and was first shown at select film festivals in 2022. Netflix’s global release will now make the film widely available for the first time, following heightened fan demand and critical praise.
The documentary chronicles King Crimson’s tumultuous history, its many lineup changes, and the intense creative drive of founding guitarist Robert Fripp, whose recent retirement in 2025 has officially closed the band’s chapter. Viewers can expect candid interviews with current and former members, including Tony Levin, Adrian Belew, Mel Collins, Bill Bruford, and others, alongside rare archival footage and concert performances.
“More than a rockumentary, it’s a meditation on the cost and beauty of artistic obsession,” said Netflix’s Head of Music Documentaries in the announcement. “King Crimson is not just a band — it’s an idea. And this film captures that idea in all its complexity.”
The release comes as fans worldwide reflect on the official end of King Crimson, following Fripp’s declaration earlier this year that the band is permanently retired. The documentary is expected to serve as a fitting tribute to their legacy.
“In the Court of the Crimson King” will be available to stream globally on Netflix starting October 18, 2025.
