Dewanna Bonner Struck by a Flying Dildo in the 2nd Quarter during Mercury-Sparks Clash ….

In one of the most bizarre moments in WNBA history, Phoenix Mercury star Dewanna Bonner was hit by a flying dildo during the second quarter of Saturday ’s matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks at Footprint Center.

The incident occurred with 4:12 remaining in the second period as Bonner was transitioning up the court following a Sparks turnover. According to witnesses and arena footage, a neon-pink adult toy sailed from the lower bowl stands and struck Bonner squarely on the shoulder before bouncing onto the hardwood. Play was immediately stopped as officials and medical staff rushed to check on the six-time All-Star.

Bonner, visibly startled but unharmed, picked up the object, examined it with a mix of confusion and amusement, and handed it to a nearby referee. “I’ve seen some crazy stuff in this league, but this one takes the cake,” Bonner later told reporters with a laugh. “I thought it was a water bottle at first. Wrong shape, though.”

The game was delayed for approximately eight minutes while security escorted the fan — a woman in her mid-30s wearing a Sparks jersey — out of the arena. She was reportedly banned for life from Footprint Center and cited for disorderly conduct. Arena officials have not released her identity.

Teammates rushed to Bonner’s side, with Brittney Griner visibly trying to contain laughter while checking on her fellow veteran. “DB is tough. She’s been hit by elbows, knees, and now… that. She’s built different,” Griner said postgame.

The Mercury went on to win the game 92-85, with Bonner finishing with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and what will now forever be known as the “Dildo Distraction.” Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts called the event “unacceptable” and apologized to both teams, while WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert issued a statement condemning fan behavior and promising enhanced security measures.

Social media exploded with memes, slow-motion clips, and endless puns. #FlyingDildo trended worldwide within minutes, with fans joking that Bonner now has the most “flexible” defense in the league.

Bonner, ever the professional, downplayed the drama. “We’re here to play basketball. Let’s keep the toys in the bedroom, folks.” The Mercury improved to 8-4 with the victory and will host the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday.
