As The Doors approach their 60th anniversary in 2025, the legendary rock band is commemorating this milestone with a series of special releases and events that honor their enduring legacy. In November 2024, Rhino Records released The Doors 1967-1971, a 6-LP box set compiling the entirety of the band’s studio discography. This collection includes all six original albums, meticulously remastered from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearant Audio. Housed in a sleek green snakeskin box, the set features heavy gatefold jackets and rare photographs, with only 3,000 copies available.
In addition to the box set, The Doors are releasing Live in Detroit, a four-LP set capturing their performance at Cobo Arena in Detroit on May 8, 1970. This live album, previously unavailable on vinyl, showcases the band’s dynamic stage presence and includes rare blues covers and an extended version of “The End.”
To further celebrate their anniversary, The Doors are publishing Night Divides the Day, a comprehensive 344-page anthology book. This book features interviews, archival material, and contributions from notable figures such as Krist Novoselic and Gustavo Dudamel, offering an in-depth look into the band’s history and influence.
Drummer John Densmore has expressed interest in organizing a commemorative concert at the Hollywood Bowl, drawing inspiration from similar events like Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday celebration. While details are yet to be confirmed, fans are eagerly anticipating this potential event to honor The Doors’ lasting impact on music and culture.
