Eberechi Eze: Why I’m Always Nervous Before Games

Eberechi Eze has opened up about the hidden emotions behind his dazzling performances, revealing that nerves are a constant companion before every match he plays.

The Crystal Palace midfielder, widely admired for his flair, composure, and creativity on the ball, admitted that despite his growing reputation in the Premier League, he still feels a surge of anxiety before stepping onto the pitch.

Speaking candidly, Eze explained that his pre-match nerves stem from a deep desire to perform at his best and not let his teammates or supporters down. “I’m always nervous before games,” he said. “It’s not fear—it’s more about the anticipation and wanting to do well.”

The 25-year-old emphasized that these nerves are not a weakness but rather a source of motivation. According to him, that feeling helps sharpen his focus and keeps him mentally prepared for the intensity of top-level football. “If I didn’t feel anything, I think that would be more worrying,” he added.

Eze’s journey to the top has been anything but straightforward. Having been released by several academies earlier in his career, he developed a strong mental resilience that now defines his approach to the game. That background, he says, plays a role in why every match still feels significant.

Fans watching Eze glide past defenders and deliver moments of brilliance might assume he is full of confidence at all times. However, his revelation offers a more human side to elite athletes—one where pressure and nerves exist alongside talent and success.

At Crystal Palace, Eze has become a key figure, often carrying the creative responsibility in midfield. His ability to turn games with a single moment of skill has made him one of the most exciting players in English football.

Despite his growing influence, Eze insists he hasn’t lost the hunger or humility that drives him. “Every game is an opportunity,” he said. “The nerves remind me that it matters.”

As he continues to develop and attract attention from bigger clubs and the national team setup, Eze’s honesty about his mental state highlights an important truth: even the most gifted players experience doubt—but it’s how they channel it that sets them apart.
