Caitlin Clark Takes a Hard Fall During Team USA Win Over Puerto Rico
Caitlin Clark recently made her first appearance for the United States women’s national team, stepping onto the court during Wednesday’s matchup against Senegal in the opening Group A game of the 2026 FIBA World Cup qualifying tournament. The talented Indiana Fever guard delivered an impressive performance despite coming off the bench. In just 19 minutes of play, Clark scored 17 points and led the team with 12 assists, helping Team USA secure a commanding 110–46 victory.

Late in the second quarter, with just over two minutes remaining and the United States comfortably leading 37–15, Clark became involved in a tense moment on the court. After Kahleah Copper secured an offensive rebound, the ball found its way to Clark beyond the three-point line. She attempted a deep shot, but as she released the ball, Puerto Rico guard Tayra Melendez rushed in to challenge the attempt. In the process, Melendez made contact with Clark’s hand and moved into the space where Clark landed.
The contact caused Clark to lose her balance and fall to the floor, briefly raising concern among players on both sides. Melendez immediately checked on Clark to make sure she was alright, while teammates including Plum hurried over to assist. After getting back to her feet, Clark appeared to grimace slightly as she held her right finger, shaking her hand in an effort to ease the discomfort.
Although the shot did not go in, officials called a foul on Melendez, awarding Clark three free throws. The Indiana Fever guard calmly stepped to the line and converted two of the three attempts, extending the United States’ advantage to 39–15. Fortunately, the injury scare did not appear to be serious. There were no visible signs of a dislocation, and Clark was able to remain in the game and continue contributing to her team’s performance.
