With the regular season entering its final stretch, the Arizona Wildcats are focused on securing three wins out of their last four games to become bowl-eligible. What once seemed like a clear goal back in August has become a pressing challenge, as the team has not won a game in over a month. Head coach Brent Brennan remains optimistic about the team’s potential. “I’m still excited about this team, and I’m still excited to be here,” Brennan said during his Monday press conference. “We’ve got four games left, and if we play well, we get to play five.”

Arizona’s next challenge takes them across the country to face UCF, a team that mirrors the Wildcats’ struggles with a 3-5 record and a five-game losing streak. UCF made major coaching adjustments this week, firing defensive coordinator Ted Roof and handing play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Tim Harris Jr. “It’s tricky to adjust our game plan,” Brennan admitted. “I don’t think they’ll overhaul everything mid-season, but it’s still a challenge since the film won’t reflect the new changes.” Arizona will need to stay focused to handle these uncertainties on the road.

Brennan also addressed Arizona’s recent offensive developments, noting improvements despite past inconsistencies. “We finally executed some plays we’ve been trying to hit all season,” he said. “When the ball is in the hands of special players, good things happen.” He also highlighted efforts to strengthen the offensive line by moving key players like Jonah Savaiinaea to protect quarterback Noah Fifita’s blind side, given the team’s injuries. Brennan explained, “We believe that shifting our best linemen to key positions gives us the best shot, especially with the guys we’re missing.”

On the defensive side, Brennan discussed the importance of giving younger players opportunities, especially amid injuries. He hinted that defensive lineman Eduwa Okundaye might see more snaps soon. “We’re balancing the need to win with developing our young talent,” Brennan noted. “As tough as some lessons are, getting these players game experience is crucial for building the future of this program.” Special teams, another area in need of improvement, have also been affected by Arizona’s roster challenges. “We’ve had some issues with details, but we’re working on finding the right players to execute, despite the injuries we’re managing.”

Despite the challenges, Brennan remains hopeful about the team’s development. “We’re still building this program every day,” he emphasized. “There are tough moments, especially with young players, but they’re valuable learning opportunities. I know there are frustrations, but I also see progress. Players like Dalton Johnson have stepped up as leaders, and I believe in this team.” As Arizona gears up for the final stretch, Brennan’s focus remains on guiding the Wildcats to bowl eligibility and laying a solid foundation for the future.
