Newport County and Mansfield have agreed a fee for the forward who is undergoing a medical today (Monday) before the switch is finalised.
The Newport County star from Llangedwyn in Powys has been a revelation since joining the Gwent-based English League club from JD Cymru Premier side Bala Town.
Newport County’s League Two opener will take place at Cheltenham Town on Saturday with Evans’ future still in doubt.
Owner Huw Jenkins previously admitted that there had been tentative offers made by third tier clubs for the hard-working forward, who scored 25 goals last season.
Evans netted 21 goals in League Two last season, despite the club finishing in a lowly 18th position in the division.
As early as January then manager Graham Coughlan confirmed there had been approaches for the 27-year-old former farmer from Llangedwyn.
Former Cardiff Met player Evans joined Newport from Cymru Premier League side Bala Town in May 2022.
Evans backed up his impressive league tally last season by scoring in the 4-2 FA Cup defeat to eventual winners Manchester United, finishing with 25 goals in all competitions.
Head coach Nelson Jardim added to his firepower last week by bringing in former Leeds United and Burton forward Bobby Kamwa.
Jardim said: “Throughout pre-season our focus has been on the build-up to creating chances. First of all as a team, you need to be organised at the back which will then allow you to build going forward.
“I think the people who were here can see there is a new style being implemented and something that will take time.
“The boys are really enjoying the process, and you can see that on the pitch. There is still obviously a lot of work to be done, but it is coming.
“Hopefully, with a good first couple of games that confidence and belief can be installed around the team.”
